The Uncle Tupelo Community!

I know we probably shouldn't pick favorates because they were both so good, but who do you think had the bettter songs on Anodyne. I personally think it was Jeff. Jay's songs are great but Jeff's had much more variety and more thoughtful lyrics. It just doesn't get much better than New Madrid.

Anyway, I know I probably shouldn't get back on the old Jeff vs. Jay debate, but some good natured discussion could really liven this place up. I hope you don't mind.

i know when i'm home alone i like to crank up "acuff-rose" and bust out with some old-school down-from-the-holler stomp dancing. i love jay, and when it comes to most of the other albums, i prefer his songs, but i think i'll have to go with jeff on this one... but then, what about "chickamauga"??? don't make me choose!!!!!!

It's a no-brainer for me, but that's just personal taste. I like the gritty/earthy sound that Jay brought to UT. Jeff totally brought the more up-ended poppy sound to it. I love him too, don't get me wrong, but I'd have to go with Jay. There was a time when Jeff was my preference, as his were easier to sing along with and had a certain energy. The older I got though, the more I started drifting Jay-ward and relating more with the depressing reality I guess.

That is a great album all around. No complaints. I love 15 Keys, Chikamaugua - hell, all of it.
