The Uncle Tupelo Community!
Cross-Posted like nobody’s business!!|
As some may know; Jay Farrar (founding member of Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt), is no longer with a major label, opting to start up his own label (Transmit Sound), so that he always has an outlet for his music with no corporate strings attached. That being said; he doesn’t have the promotion that comes along with being signed with a major label, so he relies heavily on word of mouth and promotion from his foot soldiers, as it were.
Do your part and support independent labels, independent retailers and of course, Jay Farrar and Transmit Sound!!!
On June 8, in conjunction with the release of Stone, Steel & Bright Lights, Transmit Sound will also release Live EP. This collection of songs will be offered exclusively through several indie retailers. Live EP features 6 songs recorded during Jay's 2003 & 2004 shows. At the beginning of his set, prior to Canyon joining him on stage, Jay would play a few songs on his own. The performances on Live EP are pulled from this portion of the show and include "Driving the View", "Punch Drunk", "California", "Hard is the Fall", "Tear Stained Eye" and "Windfall". The ep will be offered as a separate item from Stone, Steel & Bright Lights. Live EP will not be sold through the Jay Farrar website until September 8.
Check Jay’s Site for a list of retailers who will be selling this limited EP with the fabulous devronika original photography. Whooooot!
Stone, Steel & Bright Lights will be released on June 8th in the United States via Transmit Sound (note new label name). The album will be released on June 7th in Europe, the UK, Ireland, Iceland and the Baltic States. The album will also be available in Australia and Japan. The album is comprised of songs from Jay's September & October 2003 tour with Canyon as his backing band. There are 19 songs - 15 selections from Jay's solo albums, 2 new originals, "6 String Belief" and "Doesn't Have to Be This Way", and the Columbia, MO performance of Pink Floyd's "Lucifer Sam" into Neil Young's "Like A Hurricane". The album package will also feature a bonus DVD which contains 11 songs from Jay's January 2004 performance at Slim's in San Francisco also with Canyon. Check out the Radio link at the top of Jay’s Site to hear "Doesn't Have to Be This Way" along with several other songs from Jay's storied catalogue.
